Invisalign treatment isn’t just for celebrities though. Read on to find out more about this modern orthodontic treatment.

Why Should I Consider Invisalign?

There are many reasons why you should consider trying Invisalign treatment. Not only are the aligners removable and almost invisible, but the treatment also fits around any schedule and lifestyle. This is a massive factor as to why so many people and celebrities all over the world have used Invisalign treatment.

Not convinced yet? Below we have listed two UK celebrities who have shared their experience with Invisalign.

Maura Higgins

Higgins became well known from her appearance on the popular show, Love Island. Though Higgins has stated that there was never anything particularly ‘wrong’ with her teeth, she realised that her smile was incredibly narrow, and her teeth leaned in rather than out. She decided to begin Invisalign treatment to widen her smile and make it big and bright and hasn’t looked back. She explains that although there was some brief discomfort, the process has produced incredible results.

Gemma Atkinson

Atkinson is another great example of someone who decided to take her oral health into her own hands. Like Higgins, there wasn’t anything seriously noticeable to Atkinson’s smile, but in her social media video she shows that her bottom teeth were slightly crooked and misaligned. This is a common problem and is not only a cosmetic concern but a practical one too.

Misaligned teeth can be a lot harder to keep clean and maintain, which means receiving Invisalign treatment could be a great option to combat the problem long-term. Atkinson also showcases her excitement for her treatment in her video, and it’s great to see her teeth at the start of the process. We can’t wait to see the end results!

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is a highly recommended orthodontic treatment, ideal for those who want something less visible. When you go for your first treatment, your orthodontist will take a 3D image of your teeth and use this to create your own custom clear aligners, which are virtually invisible.

You will wear each set of Invisalign aligners for two weeks, meaning that your teeth will be straightening slowly over time, with each new set of aligners. One of the main reasons many patients choose Invisalign is to have the ability to remove the aligners when you eat and drink, for flossing and brushing your teeth and even for special events. This factor adds ease to your treatment process and makes it significantly easier to manage.

Once you have been provided with a series of trays, you will need to wear each set of aligners between 20-22 hrs a day. Treatment times vary depending on the patient and the type of dental correction they need, but usually, treatment will only take up to 18 months.

Not wearing your aligners for the recommended time could delay the process since your teeth are more likely to start moving back to their original positioning. Once treatment is completed, you will need to wear a retainer around 8 hours a day. These clear plastic retainers are designed to keep your teeth in place for as long as you wear them.

What Orthodontic Problems Can Invisalign Correct?

Invisalign has a wide range of oral problems that it can correct. Regardless of whether you are aiming to improve your general smile, or correct more specific dental problems, Invisalign is a great option. The first step is to book a consultation with an orthodontist, as they will be able to thoroughly examine your teeth, identify any dental problems you have and provide a personalised treatment plan.

Some of the common orthodontic problems that Invisalign can correct include spaces between teeth, an irregular bite, crowded teeth, or crooked and misaligned teeth.

  • Overbite/overjet: This occurs when the top teeth protrude past the lower bottom teeth. This will cause a gap to form between both sets of teeth which creates a gap when the person bites down, causing problems with eating certain foods.
  • Underbite: When the bottom teeth are positioned past the top teeth, an underbite forms. This form of irregular bite is frequently found in children and corrects itself, but for adults who still have an underbite the only way to correct it will be through treatment.
  • Crossbite: A crossbite refers to when your teeth become inverted, causing them to shift into incorrect positions. For example, the teeth you have on the inside are naturally supposed to be on the outside and vice versa.
  • Overcrowding: Crowded teeth is a very common orthodontic problem. This could happen because of the size of the teeth or mouth, due to an inadequate amount of room for the teeth in the bottom or top jaw. Overcrowding often also causes overlapping and crooked teeth as a result, which can be a lot more noticeable.
  • Unevenly Spaced Teeth: This orthodontic problem refers to an individual’s teeth that are either too close together, or spaced out too much, causing gaps in between the teeth. This problem can be quite noticeable as well, but it is very easy to treat with Invisalign.

Who Can Have Invisalign Treatment?

Though Invisalign treatment is a brilliant option for many, it is only designed for adults. Patients need to be mature enough to be responsible because the treatment is very much reliant on the patient wearing their aligners for the recommended time (20-22 hrs a day). Some teens could be allowed to start Invisalign treatment, deepening on their age and maturity.

A beautiful smile

Invisalign treatment has become so popular over the last few years due to how effective and discreet it is. But just like any other treatment, it might not be the right option for every dental problem and more complex cases and long-term issues could require more advanced orthodontic treatment. But for most of the common problems, Invisalign is a brilliant option. Book your free consultation to find out whether Invisalign could be right for you!

Why Choose a Specialist Orthodontist?

Specialist orthodontists are dentists who have more training and experience providing orthodontic treatments such as Invisalign. Patients that receive orthodontics from a specialist find that their treatment is of higher quality, they finish treatment much sooner, and the level of care they receive is much higher.
